A majority of people snore at least occasionally in their sleep. However, for the millions of Americans who experience obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), snoring is more than just a source of embarrassment or annoyance for their partner—it’s a repetitive sign that treatment is needed.
Sleep apnea is a condition that causes you to periodically stop breathing while you rest, which continuously deprives you of necessary deep, R.E.M. sleep. After a consultation, we may recommend you take a sleep study to determine if you have sleep apnea, and how we can help you treat it so you can once again enjoy a healthy night’s rest.
What if I Already Use CPAP?
Many patients with OSA are prescribed a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine, which keeps the airway clear and open by providing a gentle, positive flow of air through a mask. If you’ve already been prescribed a CPAP, then you may be able to use it in conjunction with your oral appliance for even more effective results. Or, if you find the CPAP cumbersome, then we may be able to design an oral appliance as an alternative.
