Routine Dental Checkups and Cleanings
When your teeth are as healthy as they can be, your dentist will still recommend regular dental exam and cleaning visits at least once every six months. If your teeth aren’t in superb health, then your visits may need to occur more often. During each appointment, Dr. Hansen will thoroughly inspect your teeth, gums, bite, and oral tissues to detect any issues that may be present. Like a physical checkup, a dental exam and cleaning determines if you need further treatment, or if you’re good to go until your next appointment.
Periodontal Cleaning (Scaling and Root Planing)
The most common issues Dr. Hansen searches for are tooth decay and gum disease, which affect a large majority of the population. If gingivitis is present, then you may require periodontal cleaning and maintenance. Like a regular dental cleaning, deep cleaning (or scaling and root planing) involves debriding your teeth of plaque and tartar, often with ultrasonic equipment. However, scaling and root planing involves cleaning the roots of your teeth, which are situated underneath your gums and are more challenging to reach.
Oral Cancer Screenings
During each visit, Dr. Hansen will also perform a comprehensive screening to check for signs of oral cancer, such as hard-to-spot lesions, rough patches of oral tissue, sores that won’t heal, and more. Early detection is crucial to the successful treatment of oral cancer, and our advanced digital imaging equipment offers more accurate and precise results.
