Do you have dental anxiety that makes undergoing care a difficult process, or possibly special needs? If so, we want to offer a way to receive treatment with comfort and precision, so you have a positive experience in our office. In today’s blog, your Charles City, IA, dentist talks about the benefits of laughing gas, also known as nitrous oxide!
When You Need Dental Sedation
Dental sedation is designed to help ensure your treatment experience is a positive and comfortable one, even if you have high levels of dental anxiety or issues that make undergoing care difficult. In addition, this can also ensure your comfort in more involved procedures, such a tooth extraction. We will take a number of different factors into account when we recommend sedation, such as your age, weight, medical history, the medications you’re taking, and your anxiety keels. However, nitrous oxide is a very mild form of calming, and one that is safe for kids and adults alike.
Nitrous Oxide
Administering the medication is very simple. We will place a mask over your nose and you will inhale the nitrous oxide in a gas form. This gas helps you enter a deep state of calm and euphoria. You remain conscious and able to respond to the dentist as needed, but you’re comfortable and will have little memory of the procedure at all, possibly none! We can adjust the levels of the laughing gas throughout your procedure as needed, and once the treatment ends the effects of the gas will as well. Meaning you can often return to work or school, and could even drive yourself as needed! If you have more severe phobias and require a deeper form of relaxation, we could discuss other options too.
